Adequate Strength

These two short presentations give a brief introduction to the methods that are used to ensure that structural elements are provided with adequate strength. The first shows very simple examples of basic procedures for determining sizes for structural elements. The second gives an indication of the theoretical background to the formulae on which calculations are based.

For a more detailed explanation of these topics see my book Structure and Architecture (third edition), Chapter 7.
