Ethical Design

Lecture delivered to the 2021 International Academic Symposium on Archi-Neering Design Research, Southeast University, China and Tokyo Institute of Technology, 23 October 2021.

The lecture discusses the consequences for structural efficiency, and therefore carbon footprint, of the exercising of complete freedom by designers in the choice of architectural form – a freedom that has been greatly facilitated by the application of digital technology to design. The lecture questions the ethics of exercising this freedom.
